Battle of the yearly roundups

The tech titans enjoy battling it out now and then. One of the highlights of the last few weeks has been watching the yearly roundups to see what people made of 2016.

Google, Facebook and YouTube came out with three clear contenders for best roundup video, and each of them is a masterclass in narrative editing.

After a couple of weeks we’ve got a good sense of who’s victorious.

Facebook – 2.85 million views

YouTube – 181.3 million views

A video featuring an enormous roster of YouTube stars and vloggers. Focusing less on world events and more on recreating cultural trends from the year, this is a very impressive production.

Google – 14.5 million views

A really nice creative that ties in perfectly to Google’s philosophy and product.

All of these videos do a great job of putting the brand’s ethos into the a wider context, using narrative and music to create emotional, resonating content.
